Margot Austin, magazine editor of  Style at Home furnishes her home in an updated colonial style and decorates it with primitive decor.  Her home in Tweed, Ontario was featured in the Canadian Style at Home Sept 07 issue.  Even Martha Stewart mentions it is one of her favorite kitchens.   Austin's kitchen featured shades of grays from the color of her walls to the stainless steel appliances to the wall decor.  She tells Creed Blog she used CIL Meeting House in the lacquer formulation in a satin finish from Benjamin Moore for her cabinets.  The walls were painted in Farrow & Ball's Slipper in a satin sheen, and the trim & ceiling were painted in Farrow & Ball's Pointing.  Besides the beauty of the old wood floors and lovely antique Windsor chair, the farmhouse kitchen island really makes the room.  After spending an hour looking on amazon, it is very hard to find this particular style of farmhouse table.  Many of the modern farmhouse tables are not made with over sized chunky legs, and they are almost impossible to locate.  Because of this, many people are turning to ebay to find genuine antiques.  Wall cabinetry was only invented in the last century or so, and before this time, sideboards were built to house pots and pans.  Large extended tables were used in the kitchens for baking, canning and general use such as schooling and family gatherings.  The modern day kitchen islands are somewhat a throw back to a primitive look of having a extended working surface in the kitchen.  Margot Austin shows how farmhouse tables are so lovely in the kitchen.
